Background is optical signal formed on the detectors after the laser passed the sample cell with clean medium. The main cause for background signals is laser refraction/reflection when go through air, medium and sample cell. Besides, pollution of lens, medium, and sample cell may contribute to the background. The purpose of measuring background is to deduct these fixed and not-sample-related signals from sample light scattering during measurements. It guarantees the accuracy and reliability of the measuring results.
